Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area is Arkansas' largest state park. It is also extremely popular, as it features activities that appeal to a wide variety of visitors. Thus, whether you prefer hiking or hunting, you can find something you enjoy during your stay at the park.

Hiking

Hikers at the park have several options. Those who choose the historic Van Winkle Trail can visit the remains of a pre-Civil War sawmill and garden. Hikers who prefer more of a challenge can hike the Pigeon Roost trail. Day hikers on this trail can hike along the four mile loop on this moderately intense trail while overnight hikers looking for a more intense challenge can hike the entire eight mile trail. Seven other trails ranging in difficulty from easy to strenuous offer challenges to hikers of all ability levels.

Hunting and outdoor shooting range

The park has regulated seasonal hunting; it is the only state park in Arkansas that allows hunting. Visitors can hunt deer, wild turkey and small game. The park also offers the only public, outdoor shooting range in the state. The shooting range is open Tuesday through Sunday throughout the year.

Camping

Hobbs State Park has five campsites along the Pigeon Roost Trail. Some of these sites have views of Beaver Lake. The sites are primitive, but has a tent and fire ring.

Of course, this is only a sampling of the activities available at this large park. Equestrians and mountain bikers are also welcome on many of the park trails. A new visitor’s center at the park is home to many exhibits and classes.
