Mammoth Spring State Park

The Ozarks are characterized by a number of underground springs that pump sweet, clean water to the surface for people to enjoy. Mammoth Spring State Park boasts the second-largest spring in the entire mountain range, and the lake and river formed by its flow offer a wide range of recreational activities.

About the spring

If you want evidence as to how mighty the hand of nature is, look at Mammoth Spring. This astounding underground water source pumps out nine million gallons of water every hour. It pools into a gorgeous ten-acre lake, and the overflow feeds the Spring River.

Water activities

There are a wide number of water activities available at Mammoth Spring State Park. You can launch your own boat from the lake's marina or rent one of a number of craft. They have paddleboats as well as solo and tandem kayaks available for reasonable fees. The visitor center also offers some interesting exhibits on the life cycle of the fish that inhabit the lake.

Historic places

Mammoth Spring State Park features a number of historic buildings. Most notable is the 1886 Frisco Depot, a carefully-restored train station that served the boomtown of Mammoth Spring in the early 1900s. A hydroelectric dam that dates from 1927 is also open for tours.
