Travel Details

Cradled between the Ouachita and Ozark Mountains, Nimrod Lake has proven popular with fishers and hunters since it was completed in 1942. It is the oldest Corps of Engineers lake in the state.

The most popular fish harbored in the waters of Nimrod Lake are crappie, largemouth bass, bream, catfish and white bass. Anglers have become accustomed to large *slab* crappie tugging on their hooks and making their bobbers dance at Nimrod. Other water sports such as water skiing, swimming, and boating are also very popular activities.

In-season hunting is permitted throughout the lake area except in or near parks. A 2400-acre *green tree* public duck hunting area is available on project lands and an area has also been set aside as a mobility impaired hunting area.

Those who enjoy sports are not alone in appreciating Nimrod. There are five modern campgrounds and one day use area nestled along the lake where a family or individual can picnic, camp, or just relax amid the groves of tall, sweet scented pines. The campgrounds provide trailer/tent spaces with electric and water hookups, hot showers, boat launching ramps, parking areas, fish cleaning stations, and many other amenities. Campsites in each park may be reserved through the National Recreation Reservation Service.

Nimrod Is conveniently located adjacent to State Highway 7, which is a National Scenic Byway. Other nearby points of interest are Petit Jean State Park, Mount Nebo State Park, Hot Springs National Park, and Mount Magazine State Park. There are several local stores and bait shops along the lake where camping, fishing, and hunting supplies are available.

Directions

40 miles north of Hot Springs, AR 7. From Ola, go 9 miles South on State HWY 7 also known as Scenic Byway 7, to Fourche Junction, intersection of HWY's 7 & 60. Turn right (west) on HWY 60. All park access roads are off of HWY 60.
